Observations on Xenobiology
Species: Time Lord

by Dr. Grace Holloway

It is only by the leave of one dear friend that I am able to make these observations. Why he trusted me in the first place, he never said, but it is still a surprise even when I look back that he was willing to be so close to me. It was I who killed him, when we first met. Of course I did not intend it; just the opposite. I could not possibly have known what he was. But that horrible mistake is the reason I had to make this study. I could not allow myself to remain ignorant of his physiology; not if he should ever need my help again.

I have made the bulk of these studies using early 21st Century Earth technology, but my friend has occasionally taken me to another time and place to use more sophisticated equipment, when the examination I wished to make would have been too invasive otherwise.

A note on terminology

The term "Time Lord" is not actually the name of the species; it is a title earned through roughly one hundred years of education. The species does not have a name as such; the closest thing would be to call them Gallifreyans, for the planet they come from. But because I also talk here about special senses and control of the body, and I don't know how much of this is inherent and how much is learned through that education, I will frequently refer to the species as Time Lords anyway.

Disclaimer

It is also important to note that my friend is part human, due to the circumstances of his last regeneration, so it is possible that full-blooded Gallifreyans are less similar to humans than these observations would suggest.
